Sign in to the account that you use to back up the images from the device. Tap the ‘Menu’ icon (three horizontal lines at the top-left of the screen). Select ‘Free up space.’ I was able to go to go to album archive (get.album.com). They should have an album called profile photos. Open that album to see all your photos. Click on the photo you want to delete, select the hamburger icon, and tell it to delete. It will warn you that it will delete from across Google. Tell it yes. Hit refresh, and it should be gone.
