Re: Fritz Box 3490 - Plusnet 80/20 settings « Reply #14 on: January 16, 2018, 03:12:53 PM » I can't answer that question, I know some routers such as BT HomeHubs can switch between ADSL and VDSL2 without user intervention, I guess they must try both modes when attempting to connect. 1500 is the max MTU size for ethernet (without jumbo frames) which is why operating systems come set with this value at the start. Corporates who use VPNs often lower the MTU on the network cards (wired & wireless can be separate) to allow for the encapsulation of the packet. During the negotiation, a maximum MTU size is negotiated. Since the PC negotiates and its default MTU size is 1500 bytes (Windows 3x, 9x, NT, ME, and so forth), the web server negotiates an MTU size of 1500 bytes. Therefore, regardless of the MTU size you configure on the router, the web server still sends packets up to 1500 bytes in size. My router Billion 8800NL has the MTU set at 1492 by default and that isn't a problem Plusnet 80/20, Huawei 288, Zyxel VMG8924-B10A (bridge mode with 1500 MTU Mode: ATM/PTM (The CS at Plusnet claimed I must use ATM on 0/38, doesn't seem right) For ATM I'm also offered: VPI, VCI, Service Category (UBR/PCR/VBR/CBR and their settings), Then I have Protocol: PPPoE/PPPoA (for ATM)/MER/Bridging VLAN Id PPP also has the usual settings: User, Password, MTU, MRU, KA, LCP, Auth mode (PAP/CHAP/MSCHAP/Auto). Important Note: MTU must be 1492 (or lower) when using PPPoE connectivity. More detailed information about the effects of MTU can be found here. Important Notes: •Due to additional complications, VPNs require a different type of MTU test. Please refer to the end of this article. May 08, 2020 · Configure firewall with my Plusnet credentials. Maximum Transmission Unit - MTU. The MTU is the maximum amount of data (packet size) that can be transmitted in one go before it has to be cut up into smaller chunks. Each network has a maximum limit of data size it can cope with before data is fragmented into smaller packets. This figure may vary from network to network.
